Empire: New Image From The Lion King

  1. For some reason, this image is making me want a Lion King remake in this same visual style with no dialogue.

Just imagine that for a moment. No dialogue because they’re all animals and so logically they can’t talk. Instead, it’s just all told through visuals. Given the simplicity of The Lion King’s story, I really don’t see any reason they couldn’t pull that off.

Of course, it wouldn’t be nearly as profitable as a straight remake but it’s just an idea I had that I think would be awesome.

  2. How is this better than the animated original? I’d rather see a cartoon with exaggerated expressions than a real looking lion talking to a bird.

  3. As a big fan of the original, and a big fan of impressive animation – I’m sad that it no longer has a stylized look that most animated movies have and that we lose the uniqueness of each character.

This looks like a National Geographic photo of two lions and a bird, not 3 animated Disney characters, and certainly not the iconic Mufasa, Simba, and Zazu. If Nala was there next to them I wouldn’t be able to tell her apart from Simba.

  4. This movie will not age well. I think so far it looks great, but “realistic” cgi always looks terrible down the line.

  5. My nostalgia is ready for this. I wonder if it’ll be as emotionally impactful as the original. I really hope so, if anyone can balance emotion and fun it’s Jon Favreau.

  6. I’ve gotta say that I’m actually quite optimistic about this film. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney movie, and I hated the live-action remake. Just saw Aladdin recently, and aside from a few things, I thought it was pretty awful as well. But this movie has me excited. Maybe it’ll suck, but I’m hoping it doesn’t disappoint
