  1. What an embarrassing attempt at gotcha journalism. Genuinely thought the BBC was above this shit.

  2. He was incredibly patient with her. How many people would have just gotten up and walked out? She certainly cannot be called a “journalist” and really ought to be working for Fox News. Ugh. Shame on you, BBC, for allowing this to happen.

  3. I vaguely remember this from a couple years ago, but it was altogether pointless iirc. Why bring it up suddenly?

  4. I remember this, and recall thinking that neither Trevor or Zainab came out of this the better for it.

He was being asked about a perceived racist tone in his “jokes” (I say, as someone who’d seen one of his stand-up routines on a Live At The Apollo episode and didn’t find him funny at all) at a time when comedians from the 70s and 80s were talking about their regret or defence of racist jokes they’d tell back in the day.

Zainab seemed to try to get to the bottom of why he as a South African actually wasn’t being racist when he’d tell jokes about black and white people, but the editing made it seem as though a much longer and better interview had been butchered to make both look like accepting the interview was a bad idea.

Though, I still can’t think of Zainab without thinking of Harry Hill accidentally eating Savlon and turning into her to present a weird version of Channel 4 news back in the 90s.
